Working offline

What the installed app does with a weak connection or none, and what waits until you're back online.

What it is

The installed Pleno app keeps working when your phone has a weak signal or no connection. You can write a report at any time: if it can't be sent right away, it waits on your phone and goes out once there's a connection. Your Reports, Maintenance and Documents tabs open offline from the copy the app saved on your last visit.

What you can do

Open the app offline

  • Your Reports, Maintenance and Documents tabs open from the copy saved the last time you opened them online. A banner says when it was saved, for example "You're offline. Showing what was saved at 9:41."
  • Back online, the banner reads "Showing what was saved at 9:41." Tap Refresh for the latest.
  • Other screens, such as a report, a card, Ask AI or Settings, need a connection. Offline you see the offline screen, with Go to reports when a saved copy exists.

Send a report with no connection, or a weak one

  1. Tap + on Reports and fill in the form as usual, with photos and files if they help.
  2. Tap Submit. Offline, the report is saved on your phone straight away and sent once you're back online.
  3. On a weak signal the button reads "Still sending…" after a few seconds. If sending takes more than 20 seconds, the app stops waiting and keeps the report to send in the background. It's never sent twice.

Keep an unsent report

  • What you type, and the photos and files you add, are kept on your phone as you go, until the report is sent or waiting to send.
  • If the app closes while you're writing, the form opens again with "Restored your unsent report." when you come back within 30 minutes.
  • Otherwise it's listed under Unsent report at the top of Reports. Tap it, or +, to carry on. Discard deletes it, and you can undo that straight away.

Check reports waiting to send

Reports that haven't gone out yet are listed under Waiting to send at the top of Reports. Tap one to read it, send it now or remove it. Each one says where it stands:

  • Waiting for a connection or Sending soon: it goes out on its own.
  • Sending…: it's on its way.
  • Switch to EPS 4821 to send: you saved it in another of your buildings, EPS 4821 here. It waits until you switch back, or tap Switch to EPS 4821 in its sheet.
  • Sign in again to send: your session ended. Sign in and it goes out.
  • Saved by another account: someone else was signed in on this phone when it was saved. Only they can send it.
  • May already be sent. Check your reports.: an earlier version of the app may have sent it. Check your reports before you tap Send anyway.
  • Couldn't send: Pleno refused it, and says why. Fix what it says, or remove it.

When a report needs you, a notice on the other tabs says so, for example "1 report needs your attention".

Know when it's sent

  • On Android (Chrome), reports send in the background as soon as there's a connection, even after you close the app.
  • On iPhone, reports send when you open the app, or come back to it, with a connection. Safari doesn't support sending in the background.
  • Pleno tells you when it's done: "Your report was sent.", or "Your report was sent while the app was closed."

Who can do it

Anyone using the installed app. Reports aren't kept to send later during a support session.

Limits and things to know

  • Photos and files waiting to send are capped at 20 MB in total, across all waiting reports.
  • PDFs aren't compressed offline. They're sent as picked.
  • Dictation needs a connection.
  • A report belongs to the building you were in when you wrote it. If you switch buildings before it's sent, it waits until you switch back.
  • Logging out deletes reports that haven't been sent, and your unsent report, from this phone. Pleno warns you first. Offline, log out waits until you're back online.
  • Saved copies of Reports, Maintenance and Documents are deleted when you log out or switch buildings.
  • Voting, card moves, adding files to an existing report or card, and most edits still need a connection.
  • Only the installed app saves copies and keeps reports to send later. A browser tab doesn't.
