Chat history

How long Ask AI keeps your chats, and who can change it.

What it is

Every Ask AI conversation is saved so you can come back to it from Chat options (the three-dot button at the top of the chat, or at the top right in the installed app). Your chats are private to you unless you share one with council: see Sharing a chat with council. Chat options lists My chats (a shared one is marked Shared) and, below them, Shared with me.

Chats are not kept forever. Each strata chooses how long a chat is kept after its last new message: 30 days, 90 days (the default) or 1 year. Opening or reading an old chat doesn't reset the clock; asking a new question in it does.

What you can do

  • Open Chat options in Ask AI to find an earlier chat; Show more loads older ones
  • Delete a chat yourself at any time while your strata is on Pro
  • See how long your strata keeps chats in the note at the bottom of Chat options

Who can do it

Anyone who can use Ask AI sees and deletes their own chats. Admins (president, VP, delegated PM) choose how long chats are kept, under Settings → Access & permissions → Ask AI chat history.

Limits and things to know

  • Expired chats are deleted overnight, and deleted chats can't be recovered.
  • Shortening the period deletes chats older than the new period that same night.
  • When a member leaves the strata, is removed, or deletes their Pleno account, their chats are deleted that night too, and any they shared stop being shared at once.
  • A chat shared with you is the owner's chat: it is kept, and deleted, on their chat's clock. A copy you make with Continue in my own chat is yours, with its own clock.
  • On Free, Ask AI isn't available, so chats can't be opened, shared, stopped or deleted in Pleno, and shared chats stop opening for everyone as soon as your strata is on Free. The setting stays in place, so chats are still deleted automatically, by default 90 days after their last message. If your strata returns to Pro before then, its chats and their shares are back as they were.
