Payment problems and read-only mode
What happens when a payment fails and when the building becomes read-only.
What it is
Settings → Billing shows a billing status. In normal use it reads active, or grace after a failed payment. Pleno emails billing contacts when payments fail or succeed.
What you can expect
| Status | Experience |
|---|---|
| Active | Full access for the plan |
| Grace | Set when a payment fails. Full access continues for 30 days from the failure while you fix payment |
| Read only | Once 30 days of grace have passed, edits are blocked. The status on the billing page usually still reads Grace, so go by the banner and the blocked edits rather than the label |
| Archived | A preserved record handled by support. A normal cancellation does not put a building here |
A banner in the app links billing managers to Settings → Billing when writes are blocked.
Who can do it
President / VP / delegated PM update payment method and plan. Treasurer can view status.
Limits and things to know
- Blocked writes cover the whole building, not just maintenance. New and edited cards, report changes, document uploads, and category changes are all refused until billing is fixed. Reading stays available.
- When a paid subscription ends, the building drops to the Free plan with an active status, and Free limits apply again (10 open cards, 2 documents per month, no export). It is not archived.
- Self-serve Customer Portal cancellation may not be fully exposed yet — contact support if you need help canceling or restoring.
- Read-only protects the record; it is not a data wipe.
